About Practitioner
Tania Hernandez has been in special education for over 25 years working with students with learning and developmental exceptionalities. She has a lot of experience dealing with children with Autism and ADHD, Tania has been remediating the language and reading gaps in learners with dyslexia since 2006, and has a home office where she does explicit, one-on-one , cumulative, sequential and multisensory sessions with her students. She currently does only online teaching sessions. She takes into consideration the strengths and interests of each student to build a curriculum , so that collaborative learning is facilitated. A therapeutic hour is given twice a week to ensure the student is learning the foundation skills of language and reading. Tania also does online learning to cater to students who are unable to do in person classes, especially during the Covid pandemic. Every student who she taught, has improved in their reading, writing and spelling, and she takes great pride in bringing out the very best in each learner. Each student is unique, and she gets to know the person behind the student to ensure that they are involved in the learning experience. A baseline study is done first before a curriculum is specifically done for each student. The curriculum will include many of the following areas - Alphabet Identification and Sequencing, Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Penmanship, Visual and Auditory Drills, Simultaneous Oral Spelling, Sight Words and Sequences, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Essay Writing and Morphology. Tania holds a Hons. Degree in Language and Social Sciences, Diploma in Special Education and a Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language.
