About Practitioner
Twila Richards is a parent of children with all learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism. She struggled to learn to read, spell, print, write, and math all through school and into university; she was not diagnosed properly until adulthood with all of the LDs. She has a degree in General Studies with a major in English and a minor in History. Her second degree is Education. As a certified Manitoba educator, she advocated for her children and for students who struggled to learn literacy skills. She took Orton-Gillingham courses in 2017 and realized that she also has LDs.
She has volunteered for many organizations since 2017.
Her focus is her volunteer advocacy work. She contacted the Manitoba Human Rights Commission to start an inquiry for literacy in Manitoba’s public schools in 2020, unfortunately her kids were excluded from the report as too many delays happened and her children are now adults.
She advocates for her students, for her children, for herself, and for others. Twila Richards advocates for Manitoba First Nations, 2SLGBTQI+, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. She wanted Right to Literacy (not just Right to Read).
She has written speeches for Manitoba politicians, has presented to members of parliament, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, various Manitoba Schools and Divisions, and for MTS-PD Day. She has helped many individuals and parents across Canada and internationally. Has researched Manitoba Acts and has tried to acquire legal help.
Unfortunately, many Manitobans have fallen through the cracks so she and her daughter started Marin's Principle.
She is grateful that she learned OG and takes joy when students start to read and write.
