About Practitioner
As a K-12 veteran teacher, I have seen it all. Each student that I have had the privilege of teaching has taught me something that has enriched my teaching. When I have come across a new challenge, I have happily gone down the rabbit hole of discovery to learn everything I could to be the best teacher for each one. Then along came SLD Reading and Writing and that rabbit hole has led me on the journey of my life. Dyslexia impacts 5-20% of students (and adults) and is a spectrum disorder. It affects all students in different ways and there is no one way to treat it-it has to be individual, prescriptive, systematic, explicit, and fun. That is no problem!! With OG training, lots of experience, continued reading, podcasts and studying, I can individualize lessons to take my students from where they are to where they want to be. While not a straight path, it is one of self discovery, confidence building, and growth. With locations an office in SW Edmonton, I am ready to help my students learn to read in a way their brains can process and thrive. It is hard to be a square peg in a round hole world. But together, we can build square holes where learning and reading finally makes sense. I love talking to families.
