About Practitioner
Caitlin founded Sunrise Reading Solutions as a way to provide struggling readers and their families with a ray of hope. With increasing education cuts along with a lack of emphasis on effective phonics and reading instruction, youth across the province have struggled to read and write into high school and post-secondary. In the information age, this is not acceptable.
As an OCT certified teacher, Caitlin Herckenrath knew from the start that something had to change about the way reading and spelling are approached in the curriculum. In 2018, Caitlin was introduced to the Barton Reading & Spelling system, and later progressed through rigorous training and a practicum with REACH Canada. She has experienced first-hand how explicit, prescriptive, multisensory literary interventions helped empower students and bridge key gaps in their reading and spelling--all while boosting confidence in school and life. Since then, Caitlin has been utilizing the Orton-Gillingham approach with Elementary, High School, and Adult students to successfully improve literacy.
Until all dyslexic children have access to multi-sensory, structured, explicit reading instruction in school, Sunrise Reading Solutions will support young readers and their families by offering remediation that empowers them to reach their fullest potential.
