OG Canada invites you to join Joan Sedita and Shauna Cotte from Keys to Literacy on April 9, 2022 at 9:00am (PDT) for a 5 hour workshop that dives deeper into strategies for the effective teaching of sentence, paragraph and content writing.

Our morning speaker, Joan Sedita will present Instructional Strategies to Support Sentence and Paragraph Writing. This session will provide suggestions for developing syntactic awareness to grow student ability to write better, more sophisticated sentences. 

Shauna Cotte will lead our afternoon session with focus on Writing to Learn, and Writing from Sources. This session will provide suggestions for teaching students how to write about what they are reading and learning in any subject. 

Our speakers:

Joan Sedita is the founder of Keys to Literacy, a literacy professional development organization based in MA. Joan has been in the literacy field for over 40 years as a teacher, administrator, and teacher trainer. She has authored multiple literacy professional development programs, including The Key Comprehension Routine, The Key Vocabulary Routine, Keys to Beginning Reading, Keys to Content Writing, Keys to Early Writing, Understanding Dyslexia, and Adolescent Literacy. Reading. Beginning in 1975, she worked for 23 years at the Landmark School, a pioneer in the development of literacy intervention programs. As a teacher, principal, and director of the Outreach Teacher Training Program at Landmark, Joan developed expertise, methods, and instructional programs that address the literacy needs of students in grades K-12. Joan was one of the three lead trainers in MA for the Reading First Program and was a LETRS author and trainer. Joan received her M.Ed. in Reading from Harvard University and her B.A. from Boston College.

Shauna Cotte began her career in education as a literacy specialist before spending time as a classroom teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels where she taught U.S. history as well as reading and writing. She received a M.Ed. in Reading Curriculum Development and Instruction from Boston College and a B.S. in Education from Framingham State College. Shauna has collaborated with curriculum coordinators, administrators and special educators to design and implement various research-based curriculum initiatives at both a school-wide and district-wide level. As a senior trainer and consultant at Keys to Literacy since 2007, Shauna has delivered professional development to thousands of teachers across the U.S.
