OG Canada invites you to join us on May 25, 2024 at 10:00 am PDT to listen to Dr. Jan Hasbrouck speak on the following topic:

READING FLUENCY: ESSENTIAL FOR COMPREHENSION (& MOTIVATION)

Helping students read fluently is a focus of the efforts of many teachers and specialists. And that's a good thing, because we know from the National Reading Panel Report that fluency is “a critical component of skilled reading”, and fluency standards have also been included in an essential foundation skill in most states. But...do we really understand what fluency is? Do we understand how to determine which students are sufficiently fluent and which need more help? And what kind of support do our students need to become fluent? Let's revisit this topic with an emphasis on the purpose of fluent reading: Comprehension and motivation!

Jan Hasbrouck, Ph.D. is a researcher, educational consultant, and author who works with schools and agencies in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Hasbrouck worked as a reading specialist and literacy coach for 15 years and later became a professor. Her research in reading fluency, academic assessment and interventions, and instructional coaching has been widely published. She is the author, coauthor, and co-editor of several books along with some assessment tools. She continues to collaborate with researchers and school colleagues on projects related to reading interventions, assessment, and instructional coaching.

NOTE:  This session will be recorded and the recording will be available to all registrants following the session for 2 weeks.
