OG Canada invites you to join us for a morning of learning about cognitive load theory with Nidhi Sachdeva, Ph.D. on November 16, 2024 from 9 am PST to 10:30 am PST.

Understanding Cognitive Load: Teaching Strategies for Inclusive and Equitable Learning

In this session, attendees will explore Cognitive Load Theory, a foundational framework in teaching and learning, with a focus on inclusive and equitable practices. We will examine the information processing model to understand how learners acquire new knowledge and where challenges may arise in this process, especially for diverse learners. Attendees will learn about the different types of cognitive load—intrinsic, extraneous, and germane—and how each can influence learning outcomes. Special attention will be given to the cognitive load experienced by neurodiverse learners, along with strategies for better supporting them. Participants will also discuss the practical implications for designing and delivering instruction that optimizes learning for all students, ensuring that instructional time is used effectively and equitably for the benefit of all learners.
